We wouldn’t be Tim & Sara if there hadn’t been quite extensive research into all available transport options…
By car to church
Postcode CO6 1UD will get you to the church, but parking in Coggeshall can be a bit tricky. There is on-street parking on Church Street – please note this is a bus route and park considerately. There’s a car park in the village centre, less than 10min walk away along Queen Street/ Church Street.
Please don’t use the Woolpack car park, tempting though it may be.
From church to Chappel
Our reception will be held at the Goods Shed, East Anglian Railway Museum (EARM), Chappel & Wakes Colne Station. Postcode for satnav is CO6 2DS.
To get to Chappel & Wakes Colne by any route involves either crossing or turning right onto the A120 from Coggeshall. Please take care, as it can be a bit confusing. Sara uses this junction several times a day and recommends that you pay attention to traffic that is also turning right that may not be paying attention to the Give Way line on their lane.
EARM is signposted with brown tourist signs from the A120 via Great Tey and from the A1124.
If you’re going to be driving and might be able to offer a lift to people, please let us know when you RSVP.
We suggest if you’re able to arrive and leave on the day by car to use the EARM’s gated overflow car park. If you want to leave cars overnight to pick up on the Sunday, there’s space for about 30 cars on the (unnamed) approach road to the station & museum. There’s no parking charges or controls of which we are aware.
By train to church
We are hoping that the “currently no engineering work planned” information from Network Rail holds true over the summer and we’re not getting married on a day with a Rail Replacement Bus Service. If it turns out we are, we’re sorry.
Kelvedon is the nearest station to the church. We will have the Coggeshall Community Bus on hand for the journey from Kelvedon to Coggeshall, and from Coggeshall to Chappel & Wakes Colne. Spaces are limited so please let us know when you RSVP if you would definitely like to use this, and for how many people. The reception venue is at Chappel & Wakes Colne station and we’ll be assuming you return by train from there.

Buses from Coggeshall to Chappel & Wakes Colne
And here we hit Rural Transport Problems. There’s no direct bus from Coggeshall to the reception venue; you would need to travel into Colchester or Braintree and back out again.
If you need to get from the church to the venue, you can either tell us you need the Community bus, cadge a lift from someone, or book a taxi.
If you want to use a cab to get to the church or away from the reception we strongly recommend booking in advance – you will notice the absence of Uber drivers just waiting for you. We can’t personally recommend any of these firms, but those firms we’ve contacted are generally happy to be contacted nearer the time.
The larger firms listed below based in Colchester may be more able to deal with requests at shorter notice and / or have 6 or 8 seaters for groups.
An estimated daytime fare from Marks Tey to Coggeshall is £10-12, and evening fare from Chappel to Colchester is £15-20.
