On Saturday at 5pm I’ll be running a session called ‘Finding your feet in a church full of families.’ Would you like to know a little bit more?
Firstly it’s intended for all sorts of people. The aim is to find new ways of relating to the rest of the church, breaking down barriers, sharing ideas, assumptions and hopefully a laugh or two. We need to hear from all kind of different points of view – older, younger, church leaders with and without partners and families, gay or straight, single or not.
Secondly, I don’t have all the answers. I’m not sure I have any: the only reliable opinion I can offer is that I’m the poster girl for doing it wrong. So it’s a workshop so we can explore some of the things we have in common together and look carefully at what we think about the things that set us apart.
The idea came out of the feedback I got after this ranty blog post. I figured that it wasn’t just me feeling unsettled and sometimes unwelcome in my ‘home’ church. So I thought that it was time to be a small part of a solution (goodness knows I am capable of creating enough problems elsewhere). If you’re at Greenbelt, it’d be great to see you.
I wish I could have been but other things, like no money, intervened this year. Maybe next?
