Looking forward to Greenbelt…

This time last year I wrote a post about going to Greenbelt and how apprehensive I was.

The twelve months have passed in a blur and now I’m packing again for Greenbelt 2012. I am so excited. Only slightly apprehensive, and that’s on two counts. Those are (i) will anyone come to my workshop and (ii) will I fail to recognise in person people I’ve been talking to on Twitter all year?

I’ve bought the iPhone app with the programme and I know where I want to be and when, several times over. I’m looking forward to a stress-free weekend where I can spend time in Soul Space, try some different ways of worshipping, listen to music and try to be calm. I hope I won’t be disappointed if I go expecting to find Him Upstairs hanging around the place.

It’s unlikely that I’ll be able to shut the thinking part of my brain down which seems constantly in overdrive at the moment – but I’m hoping to feed it with music and chat and creative stuff rather than lots of talks. I can buy those later and to be frank, I think they’ll go in one ear and out the other. But I’ve not listened to music or drawn or done anything that hasn’t involved reading, writing or researching for such a long time that the chance to do something different is exciting. Let’s hope I don’t get too scared at the thought of trying the different. I know what I am like sometimes.

I’m staying off site this year so it will be odd to start the day without having to queue for the loo – and it means I can shower daily. As an aside: when drinking water has to be carried to the tent and showers booked, Greenbelt reminds me annually just how fortunate I am to have clean, cheap, running water when I want it.

I’m taking my running kit and I’ll try to fit a couple of early morning runs in. Let me know if you want to join me…!

In short, I’m looking forward to the break. For some years I’ve started the Batty Towers new year on 1st September, and Greenbelt weekend feels like a great place to be as 2011/12 draws to a close.
